Whenever the northwesterly "Maestrale" hits Sardinia's North Shore the windsurf and kite aficionados take their boards for a wild, speedy ride.

Rolex Maxi Cup 2012 - an incredible atmosphere when the Maxi yachts take off in Porto Cervo at the Costa Smeralda.

A glorious September afternoon plus a hefty Maestrale peaking at 7 Bf are the ingredients for "Heavy Traffic" at the Porto Pollo windsurfing El Dorado. With a little patience your camera will fetch plenty of wild rides across the windswept bay. Judson Lee's "Driving Fantasy" provided the appropriate sound ambiance.

Impressions from the 2012 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup which took place in the first week of September in Porto Cervo: lots of excitement when the "big cats" come to town.

Rolex Swan Cup 2012 & Swan 45 World Championship in Porto Cervo watched on day 3 from Capo Ferro. First at Capo Ferro was for Anders Norquist's Nefertiti not the ticket to win at the finish line. The second boat rounding Capo Ferro, Highland Breeze, made it to the top.

Low and shifting winds delayed the start of the third day regatta of the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup 2011. As the yachts circled the starting line in heavy traffic and considerable speed, a collision occured between two yachts of the racing/cruising category causing significant damage on both boats. Thankfully none of the crew members were injured.

It's all about perfect preparation, flawless teamwork, working strategy and plenty of patience waiting for the get-go.

Too much Maestrale led to postponing the race. A good time to watch and quiz the pros.

This is en encore to the "Heroes" clip I did the weekend before. This time the Maestrale blew at an extreme gale force of up to 9 Beaufort, keeping most of the boarders (as well as kibitzers and photographers) in their vans. But a few rose to the challenge. And here is their story. Shot on a Nikon D7000.

Last week in northern Sardinia the Maestrale rose to a crescendo of 7-8 Bf. Perfect time to observe the armada of wind and kite surfers at Porto Pollo who typically crawl out of their hide-outs on a day like this: a spectacular show. Shot on my new Nikon D7000.
